When you join Big Chicken Chorus, you will have the joy of singing with your new friends every week. Take a break from reality and experience the magic of barbershop harmony. When you find something you enjoy - singing - and then you find men who enjoy it as much as you while supporting each other through thick and thin, then becoming a member is a no-brainer.

You will be in good company as you join hundreds of choruses and thousands of quartets brimming with passionate musical skill. Not to mention the joy and happiness that comes from being a chorus member. You may even find quartet singing to be another level of challenge and enjoyment.

What Can I Expect?

• To meet an inviting group of dedicated men who love to share their talents.​

• To learn about the a cappella art form from a dynamic and experienced director. Michaela Slamka-Johnston, is a 4th generation Barbershopper and a 3rd generation International Barbershop Quartet Champion. She holds degrees in Music Theory and Music Education from the University of Missouri and has classroom experience,​

• To be coached by gifted professionals who help us become the best we can be.​

• To perform in our surrounding community for Concerts, Sports events, and various perfrmances as a member of the chorus or as a member of a quartet or VLQ (a Very Large Quartet; usually 8-12 voices).​

• To find your place in the chorus!  No formal training or musical knowledge is required. We provide all the tools and education for you to find your voice.

Membership Options

Full-time, Local Members
Men living within a 100 miles radius of our rehearsal location are full-time members of the chorus.

Members ages 7 to 25
Young men ages 7* to 25 are full-time members with the benefit of a 50% discount on dues and membership fees.

Distance Members
Big Chicken Chorus has recently approved a program for men who travel greater than 100 miles to rehearsals. Because of the distance you travel, attendance expectations are greatly reduced.

*Members under age 17 require a sponsor.

How do I become a member of the Big Chicken Chorus?
It’s simple. Show Up. Sing Out. Sign Up.

Show Up

You have probably heard the old line: “90% of success is showing up.”  So, show up at one of our regularly scheduled Monday night rehearsals at theMarietta Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1330 Cobb Parkway North, Marietta, GA  30062. The rehearsal starts at 7 pm but it would be great if you show up by 6:45 or so to meet our Director and membership coordinator and get a copy of the music that will be sung at the rehearsal.

If you simply want to observe and listen on your first visit, that’s perfectly OK.  No pressure.

When and if you are ready to start to sing, let the Chorus Director know so that he can assess your voice and determine which of the four vocal sections (tenor, lead, baritone, or bass) would be best for you.

Sing Out        

Join us in song. If you are brand new to barbershop singing, we ask that you attend at least three rehearsals before seeking membership. If you are transferring from another barbershop chorus, membership decisions can be expedited.
When you think you are ready, let the Chorus Director know and she will arrange an audition which will involve asking you to sing a song in an ad hoc quartet either just before or after a rehearsal or on a break. Upon successful completion of the audition, you are ready to . . .

Sign Up

To be a member of the Chorus, you will also be joining the international Barbershop Harmony Society (BHS), the Southeastrern Harmony District (BHS Chapters in Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee) and the Marietta, GA Chapter of the BHS. The Membership VP will work with you to sign up using the online registration process on the BHS website. We very much hope that you will consider becoming a member of the Big Chicken Chorus as we perform and serve the community In Harmony.
